My husband and I bought a tiny cottage by the river last summer. It was fully furnished and decorated but I wanted to make it feel like my own. We all have our own style. I loved the two matching fish quilts it came with. I decided that would be my color scheme. I decided to keep the fishing theme since it is a cottage off the Mississippi River.

The following is a pic of the quilt. It is reversible to be stripes on one side or fish on the other. How cute!

The cabin contains a kitchen, one bathroom, and three other rooms. We decided to make two of the three other rooms bedrooms and the third room a living room. The room they originally had as the living room we decided to make a large bedroom. Here is the before furnished living room on the bottom picture. The top picture is the same room but as a bedroom. Note the quilts! It only came with 2 quilts but I found you can buy them from several places such as Target, Macy’s and Kohl’s. What do you think?

The next photos are the before and after of a room that was originally a bedroom but we changed it into a living room. We decided to do this because it has sliding doors out to the deck.

The next pictures are of this same room but of the new living room. I bought the sectional couch used for 400 dollars. The curtains are actually shower curtains. I needed a smaller length plus they are cheaper per panel! The rocking chair in the top pic is actually the same rocking chair in the bottom pics. i just painted it! The new rug in the living room is a 30 dollar cheap remnant from Menard’s. The television stand and navy chairs I did splurge and buy new off Amazon.

The following picture is of the second original bedroom. We kept this as a bedroom and just did some restyling. Note the dark brown dresser on the side of the bed. I painted it, added dock cleats from Amazon for handles and added some decorative rope. I got this idea off of Pinterest. Thanks Pinterest!!!!

See the revamped bedroom!

I had the lamps at home. I bought the comforter off of Amazon.

The bathroom is teeny tiny, but hey at least it isn’t an out house! I replaced the shower curtain with one I found for 16 dollars at TJMaxx, added a few new towels and rug from Walmart (Better Homes and Gardens), and took down the curtains. The cabin is high on stilts so having a curtain in the bathroom really isn’t necessary for privacy.

Lastly we have the Kitchen. It’s original red and white decor and color just wasn’t working with my blue palette.

We added a white and gray laminate countertop from Menard’s that was already in stock. I painted some of the cabinets white. I bought a used table and chair set for 150 dollars. What do you think?

We did put cheap in stock flooring in all rooms other than the bathroom (also from Menard’s).

What can I say? It is still a work in progress but I am proud of how far we have come especially since we bought it last summer and only worked on it from August until October. The sky is the limit! We hope to stain the deck and revamp things on the outside. That will be a post this coming summer or fall. Thanks for looking.

Blessings,

Carrie
