I have several brass decor. The above pic is of some brass decor my mother bought me from a thrift store. I polish my brass every so often. If you don’t polish brass it becomes dark. That finish of brass is known as “antique.” I do keep some of my brass in that finish. I like it for some of my brass pieces. Here is a pic of a votive with antique brass finish. I also included a pic of that same votive with the polished brass basket to see the difference more clearly.
I bought two different cleaners. The next photo is a picture of each cleaner and the brass items I cleaned with each.
I cleaned each item for about 5 minutes. I think Hope’s Brass Polish made the brass shinier and more golden verses Bar Keepers Friend. Bar Keepers friend seemed to make the brass a lighter brass color. Hope’s is a cream and called a “polish” but also states it cleans and shines. Bar’s is a coarse powder and notes it cleanser. It seems Bar’s cleans an additional layer than Hope’s as seen in the next photo. It shows the darker shinier brass color and then the lighter brass color which is under the shinier layer. I would really have to scrub to work that off.
See if you can see any difference in the next photo with all pieces together.
The brass basket and smaller candle holder were polished by Hope’s and the other two by Bar’s. They pretty much look the same.
The verdict? I’m a Bar Keepers Friend fan but both work. What would you pick?
