My entryway was boring (as seen in the following pic). The space is small but needed a makeover. I wanted inexpensive and to spend minimal time. Spice up the walls; add a bench, table, decorative items, and rug.

I found inspiration from a peel and stick wallpaper pattern found online. I ended up buying three rolls from Amazon (34.00 per roll). As you can see, I had some trouble with it! The walls are a little rough and it is very cold in the entry. The wallpaper directions stated a certain temperature for application, but this room was way colder. It would not stick and actually pieces fell off by morning. I spent over 100 dollars on the paper and really liked it. I wondered what I could do? I found a product on Amazon specifically for wallpaper (even peel and stick wallpaper).

So, did it work? Yes, it did and it was easy to use. I decided to apply the wallpaper to only about 1/2 of the height of the walls, paint the top black to go with the pattern on the wallpaper, and add a horizontal board. I already had black paint and boards leftover from a project we did years ago. My husband measured, cut, and nailed the boards. The color of the wood did not exactly match the other trim so I did end up buying a gel stain. Here is a pic before the gel stain application.

The local hardware store had three colors to choose from so I ended up going with a color called, “Aged Oak.” In the next pics you can see the final results. I am happy with it. I do plan on buying a small bench (if I can find a cheap one at TJMaxx or consignment shop). I also plan to add black coat hooks on the horizontal boards for coats and purses eventually. I already had the faux plant, brass mirror, brass deer, and plate that sit on the new table. I just found a new home for them!

Lastly, I did buy two light switch plates in aged brass to go over the bright gold plates. And, I bought a pack of two picture frames (Home Goods for 30 dollars). I already had the flower art prints. Now looking at the pics. I might add another coat of gel stain to the horizontal trim. I do want to add a cute rug too. The rug will need to be very low pile because the exterior door is so low. What color of rug would you suggest and what shape (round or square)?

All in all, the remix cost about 250 dollars. What do you think?

Blessings,

Carrie

I love this!! This transformation truly gave the space some great character. I would suggest a square rug either beige, cream, or grey! Thanks for sharing 🙂
